As an educator, Ben teaches private guitar lessons and group workshops in the Twin Cities and in Philadelphia, PA. He welcomes students of all levels who are interested in deepening their foundations in acoustic guitar, fingerstyle guitar, and improvisation.
This approach allows you to outline each of the two chords, producing the inside-outside sound, while you work with only four notes on each chord, making it easier to switch between the two on the neck until you are more comfortable with this harmonic pairing.

Fusing jazz, rock, funk and R&B and forged back in the 60's and pioneered by artists such as Miles Davis, Larry Coryell, Pat Metheny, Gary Burton and John Mclaughlin, the genre known as Fusion continued to evolve and is very much alive and well today.
This creates a swing feel and the effect of a long and short note on each beat without actually playing a long and short note. We cover both parts of learning how to play funk guitar, starting with a rhythm guitar lesson, learning how to play funky guitar chords and chord progressions.

The advantages to playing 3 notes per string with the pentatonic scale are that you get to explore a huge chunk of the neck and that it automatically helps you connect the different two notes per string positions while ascending the neck. If you are new to this approach, and to the concept of inside-outside playing, it's a good idea to start with the arpeggio approach first.

In the second of this video series M Arenas covers arpeggios and applications over diatonic progressions (in Major, Harmonic Minor and Jazz melodic Minor), blues progressions as well as minor blues progressions. Even when the music stays in the same key say in E-minor all 12 notes can be used and many modes and chromatic notes such as 3,4 and 5 in a row to give it a more unusual sound.

Notice that the &'s of each beat in the second bar is accented, meaning you play it slightly louder than the notes on the beats in each bar.
